Hazard Intelligence Officers (multiple positions)

Canberra preferred but other capital city offices will be considered
Full time or Part time
Remuneration range $88,607 – $133,996 (including superannuation)

The Hazard Intelligence Officers will work closely with the Australian Government’s National Situation Room providing daily briefs and advice on hazards and risk across Australia. You will be passionate about community safety, able to work resiliently and flexibly under pressure and to tight timeframes, be comfortable in working extended and non-standard hours, be able to prioritise the criticality of information and to communicate effectively to different audiences in support of their decisions.

You will possess tertiary qualifications in science, ideally with a background in meteorology, hydrology, oceanography, climatology, emergency services or similar high paced, operational environment. You will develop complementary knowledge across multiple hazard domains and timescales, and how they impact emergency management response.

Senior Hazard Risk Specialist (1)

Melbourne or Canberra
Full time or Part time
Remuneration range $118,960 – $133,996 (including superannuation)

The Senior Hazard Risk Specialist provides climate and hydrological data analysis, expert intelligence, valuable technical insights and tailoring of climate products and services, in support of risk and resilience services the Bureau delivers as a partner in the Australian Climate Service. You will contribute to national climate risk assessments, including national hazard risk scenarios, and the future risk of heatwaves, fire weather, tropical cyclones and heavy rainfall.

You will possess high-level skills in working with weather and climate data, including large volume data sets of historical observations, long-range forecasts and climate projections, with exposure to one or more hazards. You will require post graduate qualifications in climatology, hydrology or meteorology and experience in working with climate observations and future projections, and will possess a solution focused approach, excellent science communication abilities and a mindset of delivering high level intelligence in operational timeframes.

Senior Climate Risk Specialist (2)

The Senior Climate Risk Specialist provides climate and hydrological data analysis, expert intelligence, valuable technical insights and tailoring of climate products and services, in support of risk and resilience services the Bureau delivers as a partner in the Australian Climate Service. As opposed to the Senior Hazard Risk Specialist, this role will be more suited to someone with a climatology background and experience in climate projections.

You will possess post graduate qualifications or an undergraduate qualification and equivalent work experience in climatology, hydrology or meteorology and experience working with climate observations and future projections. You will also possess high-level skills in working with weather and climate data, including large volume data sets of historical observations, long-range forecasts and climate projections, and a solution focused approach, excellent science communication abilities and a mindset of delivering high level intelligence in operational timeframes.

Spatial Data Analyst (1)

Canberra preferred but other capital city offices will be considered
Full time or Part time
Remuneration range $97,709 – $133,996 (including superannuation)

The Spatial Data Analyst will provide climate and hydrology spatial data analysis and visualisation in support of the climate risk and resilience services the Bureau delivers as a partner in the Australian Climate Service. You will use your spatial data analysis and GIS experience to support a range of climate hazard related activities, including helping inform stakeholders of future high impact weather risk through contributing to national hazard risk scenarios. Excellent science communication abilities and a mindset of delivering high level intelligence in operational timeframes, will be essential.

You will possess technical skills in spatial visualisation of climate and hydrology data, including large volume data sets of historical observations, long-range forecasts and climate projections. You will require a science based degree, ideally in spatial data science or GIS, and experience in working with climate observations and/or future projections.
