Our Climate and Atmospheric Science branch is seeking to appoint a Team Leader, Quality Systems and Reporting to provide technical leadership on data and quality management, and for ensuring Department of Planning and Environment air quality data and reporting meets the highest standards.

About You

 As the Team Leader Quality Systems and reporting you will be responsible for leading a team of scientists and project officers working on quality management and reporting of air quality data results to a wide variety of stakeholders.

You will lead a team which is responsible for maintaining high quality outputs for projects such as air quality reporting and ensuring appropriate standards of scientific rigour. Your experience in project management including preparing project plans, identifying and coordinating resources, managing budgets and reporting will ensure delivery of atmospheric science projects and quality management systems for the branch.

Your ability to communicate complex ideas to a wide variety of technical and non-technical stakeholders in effective delivery of air quality data and projects to various stakeholders. You will also provide expert advice and support to the branch and broader Science and Economics Insights Division on the development, implementation, management and reporting of science and quality management projects.

You are a team player that can nurture and direct a talented team with the aim of staff upskilling and career progression.

It is highly desirable that you have some knowledge of air quality or environmental data systems and/or implementation of quality management systems in accredited settings.

Essential Requirements and Key Knowledge

  • Demonstrated experience in delivering comprehensive quality assurance systems for data intensive science projects and programs
  • Ability to work in collaboration with partners to deliver customer focused results from science projects
  • Scientific qualifications, knowledge and demonstrated experience in climate or atmospheric science, or related disciplines such as environmental monitoring

The Climate & Atmospheric Science branch work with multiple agencies within the NSW Government, in other states, and with businesses and communities to better understand our atmospheric environment and to assist decision makers dealing with the complex policy issues of air pollution and climate change.

We operate the largest and most comprehensive air quality monitoring network in Australia, with more than 90 stations across the state providing hourly updated air quality readings to the web.

We provide the NSW Government’s daily air quality forecast needed by the Government and communities to raise awareness about the prevailing air quality.  Our research, data, information and knowledge are pivotal to helping the NSW Government achieve its objectives of improving air quality across NSW.

We provide the NSW Government’s flagship regional climate modelling (NARCliM) and assist stakeholders across the NSW, ACT and South Australian Governments, businesses and communities to understand climate change, climate risks and their potential impacts.

We provide the core climate science that underpins the recently released NSW Adaptation Strategy. This integrates climate impact science across multiple disciplines including natural hazards, hydrological modelling, biodiversity and landscape modelling and integrated risk management

Our Net Zero Emissions Modelling is underpinning the development of programs to support the NSW Government’s Net Zero Emissions Plan Stage 1 and tracking greenhouse gas emissions and abatement opportunities across all sectors of the economy and regions of NSW.
