About us
We work with multiple agencies within the NSW Government, in other states, and with businesses and communities to better understand our atmospheric environment and to assist decision makers dealing with the complex policy issues of air pollution and climate change.
Our research, data, information and knowledge are pivotal to helping the NSW Government achieve its objectives of:
- Improving air quality across NSW (Clean Air for NSW)
- Achieving net zero emissions by 2050 (Climate Change Policy Framework)
- Ensuring NSW is more resilient to a changing climate (Climate Change Policy Framework)
We operate the largest and most comprehensive air quality monitoring network in Australia, with more than 90 stations across the state providing hourly updated air quality readings to the web.
We provide the NSW Government’s flagship regional climate modelling (NARCliM) and assist stakeholders across the NSW, ACT and South Australian Governments, businesses and communities to understand climate change, climate risks and their potential impacts.
We provide the core climate science that underpins the recently released NSW Adaptation Strategy. This integrates climate impact science across multiple disciplines including natural hazards, hydrological modelling, biodiversity and landscape modelling and integrated risk management
Our Net Zero Emissions Modelling is underpinning the development of programs to support the NSW Government’s Net Zero Emissions Plan Stage 1 and tracking greenhouse gas emissions and abatement opportunities across all sectors of the economy and regions of NSW.
