The current AMOS Tasmania Regional Centre formed on 1 May 2014. Prior to this, many of its members worked together on the 2014 National Conference committee. The committee comprises research professionals from CSIRO, the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS, University of Tasmania), Australian Antarctic Division and the Bureau of Meteorology. The committee meets every 1-2 months in Hobart to plan the Centre’s activities and events. These include public lectures, student events, and member opportunities including tours and competitions. The Centre aims to cultivate interest in the atmospheric, oceanographic and cryospheric sciences among its members (including students, teachers, academics, and researchers) and the broader Tasmanian public.
