The Australian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society (AMOS) is an independent Australian society that supports and fosters interest in meteorology, oceanography, and related sciences. For more information about AMOS's national activities, and its other regional centres, see About AMOS on the society's home page.

The AMOS Canberra Centre conducts activities in support of AMOS's aims in the Canberra region. It presents a number of seminars and public lectures each year, often in association with university departments, CSIRO, or other professional societies. The Centre also contributes to the National Science Festival. The AGM provides an occasion for an informal Centre dinner, with a guest speaker.

The Canberra Centre also administers the AMOS Prizes for the ACT. These prizes are awarded annually, for the best performance in courses on AMOS-related topics at an ACT university. One prize is awarded for courses at second-year level and one for courses at third-year level. From time to time the Centre also runs a seminar competition for research students working in the Society's areas of interest.

The Canberra Centre maintains a list of email addresses to which it sends out notices of the Centre's activities and of any other Canberra-region meteorological or oceanographic meetings that come to our attention. To be added to this list (and to be removed from it), please email the Centre's secretary.

Membership of AMOS is open to anyone with a genuine interest in meteorology, oceanography or related sciences. Further information is provided in About AMOS, from which an application form can be downloaded. The secretary of the Canberra Centre will be pleased to answer any enquiries. Non-members are welcome to attend the Canberra Centre's activities.
