Student Essay Prize

AMOS encourages students who have shown an interest in studying Meteorology, Oceanography and/or related sciences at a tertiary level. To promote such interest, each year AMOS holds an Essay competition. Details of the 2011 Student Essay Prize competition are provided below and in the flyer available for download.

The winner will receive a prize of $300 and have their essay published in the Society magazine BAMOS.

Honourable mentions may also be awarded, and gain a prize of $100.

Finalists may also have their essays published in BAMOS.

Word Limit: 5000 words

Target Audience: readers of BAMOS

Closing Date: Monday 5th September 2011

Entries are invited from current undergraduate university students (up to but not including Masters level).

Why not adapt the literature review of your thesis, or turn that assignment you have slaved over into an entry, and give yourself a chance at winning $300 and of having a publication and prize to add to your CV? Finalists’ essays may also be published in the AMOS Bulletin.

Entries should be supplied via email as a pdf or in a format readable by Open Office, and accompanied by details of the entrant’s contact address and his or her university enrolment and a declaration that the essay is the student's own work..

Essays of the winner and finalists of the 2008 competition can be found in the last five issues of BAMOS for 2009.
