Green conference guidelines
Dear Conference Participant,
The organizing committee for the 2010 National AMOS conference has adopted the Green Guidelines statement issued for the 2009 Conference (http://www.bom.gov.au/events/9icshmo/green_guidelines.shtml). To realize the principles expressed in that statement, we are working together with ANUGreen (http://www.anu.edu.au/anugreen/) to provide YOU, the participant, with opportunities to make this as "green" a conference as possible.
Here are some recycling/re-use ideas from Barry Hughes, manager of ANUGreen:
- Bins for co-mingle recycling (cans, bottles, milk cartons, office paper) will be located throughout the conference venue (outside the lecture theatres – NO food or beverage inside).
- Paper cups used at morning/afternoon teas in the ANU Union are biodegradable; please dispose of in the bins provided.
- Consider bringing along your own favourite cup for morning tea and other drinks. OR hold onto disposable cups / water bottles and re-use as much as possible.
In addition we are:
- Incorporating fliers from sponsors into the abstract book (50% recycled paper).
- Using bags made of 100% biodegradable cornstarch from EarthBasics (http://www.earthbasics.com.au/ - "conference bags") to distribute the program and abstract booklets. Note that these bags are approximately A4 size and hand held.
What more can you do?
- Offset the carbon cost of your own transport to the conference (http://www.carbonoffsetguide.com.au/).
- Bring your own name tag holder.
- Re-use a satchel from a previous conference. The participant bringing the OLDEST CONFERENCE BAG wins a prize!
Thank you for helping us make this an environmentally sensitive conference about the environment.
